Tongren Polytechnic welcomes the first batch of overseas students
On September 28, 19 overseas students from Laos arrived at Tongren Polytechnic, which symbolized a breakthrough made by the college in international exchange and cooperation, and made the college join in the front ranks of international school-running for colleges in the province. In the afternoon, a welcome ceremony was held in the auditorium on new campus.
At the ceremony, associate Prof. Luo Jing, director of Foreign Affairs Office delivered a welcome speech. On behalf of the college, she extended a warm welcome to the overseas students who came from afar. She said exuberantly that the first batch of overseas students coming to Tongren Polytechnic made the campus become more vivid and glorious. In the process of constructing a state key higher vocational college, the coming for the first batch of overseas students subsidized by Fanjing Mountain scholarship added an inerasable page to the history of the college.
Chen Quan, principal of Laos North School in Oudomxay province, said in his speech that he gave his heartfelt thanks to Tongren Polytechnic for the thoughtful entertainment as he was entrusted with leading 19 students to Tongren. Meanwhile, he hoped that those overseas students would value the precious opportunity to further studies in china, abide by the disciplines and laws, study hard, and live up to expectations from both teachers and parents.
Overseas students representative Li Bensong said excitedly: "Firstly, please allow me to extend my thanks to Tongren Polytechnic for providing us an opportunity to further our studies. We are deeply moved by leaders, teachers, and students in the college for the considerate care and help." On behalf of all overseas students, he solemnly declared that they were sure to study hard and achieve excellence according to the requirements of the college as well as teachers.
President Hou Changlin said graciously in the speech that he was glad to see all those 19 students. He introduced the basic information about the college with regard to geography of Tongren, eco-environment, history, culture, and the school-running features. It was the happiest thing for teachers to see students be knowledgeable. He hoped that overseas students could adjust to the life in the college and get along well with teachers and their peers as soon as possible, make a plan and stick to it, study hard, live up to the expectations from teachers and parents.
After the ceremony, all overseas students visited the campus in order to be familiar with the environment quickly.
At present, the reception and registration were well organized due to the special attention paid by the leaders of the college. In light of Cultivation Plan for Overseas Students of Tongren Polytechnic, all 19 overseas students would receive Chinese training at first, and then they would be free to choose a major that they were interested in.
